Burma Research
A Fire. A Stranger. And An Idea.
I grew up in Sarasota, FL — and for as long as I can remember, my main goal has been to create something worth sharing. I've cycled through plenty of ideas over the years, but Monster Matches is the first one I'm actually reaching out and grabbing.
As Burma Research grows, I'll be bringing more products, inventions, and ideas that I find interesting — slight variations on what already exists, or real upgrades to what's currently out there. If you've made it to this page, I genuinely want to say thanks. Whether you're here after a positive trial or just curious, I hope you can respect the creativity behind it.
The Origin
How It Started
It started with a camping trip.
My dad and I were at Kissimmee State Park. Windy day, stubborn fire, the kind of situation where you start questioning every life choice that led you there. Some guy nearby noticed us struggling, walked over, propped a stick up and snapped it in half with a quick stomp. Handing us a piece of what was fatwood. One strike. Fire. Done.
I had never heard of fatwood before that day.
A few weeks later I couldn't stop thinking about it. Fatwood is already incredible. A dense, resin-saturated pine that catches in almost any condition. But I kept coming back to one question: what if you didn't need the ferro rod, or lighter either? What if you removed the last variable completely?
That question became Monster Matches.
The Product
What We're Building
Monster Matches are 4" fatwood fire starters — the largest available. They light in wind, rain, and cold without lighter fluid, a ferro rod, or any external ignition source. Strike it. Done.
Right now we source from a manufacturer overseas while we build the brand and the volume to justify something bigger. The long term goal is domestic production. American-made Monster Matches, built by American hands.
A fire starter so reliable it earns its place in your kit. That's the vision. We're just getting started.
The Founder
Who I Am
Just a kid who loves to be outside. So I built this product because I actually use products like it and I got tired of the ones that didn't work when it mattered.
I handle everything at Burma Research. Design, sourcing, orders, customer service. If you email us, you're talking to me.
Thanks for being here early. It means more than you know.
